Webcam mic doesn't work after upgrade to 12.04

Asked by nilhol

I have a Philips Webcam SPC1300NC that I use for Skype etc. Previously I had 10.04 on my Dell GX620 which worked fine. I now upgraded to 12.04 and I cannot make the microphone in the webcam capturing the sound. I have tried a lot but no success. Any idea?

No sound is recorded in the sound recorder.

Try:

killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.pulse*

Wait 10 seconds and reboot, then run the sound preferences app and set the webcam as the mic device.

No, this did not change anything. I can select the webcam mic but I record only noise. In Skype I can still only select the PuleAudio server (local) as microphone...

Are there anybody that can help me to make my mic working? I plugged the webcam into my Windows computer and tested with Skype and both sound and image was directly excellent. Can it be a bug in Ubuntu 12.04? Is someone else using 12.04 together with a webcam mic and it works?

I also have been having a problem with my mic while using Skype and 12.04 Ubuntu. I have noticed that when I start Skype the setting will change for the audio from a selection of rear microphone (where mic is plugged in) to front microphone. The result is no sound using the microphone. The webcam works fine though.

I should have also added that if I open the sound settings AFTER I open Skype and manually change the setting back to rear microphone it will then work.

I'm having the same problem with this camera model
on yea ago, with Ubuntu 11.04, it used to work well

Notice that it used to have the blue light on when recording, but the light is off actually

Skype is a mess, in any OS. I suggest you look into open alternatives.

the problem is not skype, or any other tool using the webcam
the problem is the webcam's microphone which is not activated any more, whatever tool I try to use

and once again, it used to work previously: this webcam was nicely supported
I tried with pavucontrol and every other tips I found, but nothing activated the microphone
this blue light on the webcam seems to be the visible part of microphone activation
it gets activated when plugin in the wabcam, but never afterwards

Having the same problem with a webcam and mic after loading 12.04 LTS on my notebook. Worked fine 2 hours ago before the install with 10.04 LTS, and NO actionparsnip, it is NOT a problem with websites, it is a bug in 12.04.

Can you help with this problem?
