What version of ubuntu are you using? This package exists in hardy, karmic, lucid, maverick and natty .

Can you post the contents of your /etc/apt/sources.list file here?

Finally, you can try updating. sudo apt-get update

in software sources under system>administration, make sure multi-verse is clicked, and in the second tab, make sure canonicial partners are clicked.

then go into terminal and type

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install geany

It's in universe repo:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/geany

Make sure you have that enabled too.
