Tried to update to 12.10 alpha 1 unstable Failed

Terminal window displayed message "failed to read mirror file"
Upgrade window displayed the following messages:
W:Failed to fetch http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/source/Sources 404 Not Found
, W:Failed to fetch http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found
, E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

12.10 is still Alpha. Those repos your looking for don't exist. Try commenting them and your ppa's out and run it.
