Are there any plans to integrate Blender 2.64 into the Ubuntu repository?

Asked by daniel mejia

On October 4 of 2012 Blender 2.64 was released, this is about 2 weeks before the release of Ubuntu 12.10, I was wondering if this new Version of Blender can possibly make it to Quantal, and possibly fixing the Cycles, and Collada export/import issues that the current package of Blender on Quantal has.

Two weeks is not very long to test and repackage.

According to the Quantal package list the version that will be in the repositories is 2.63a-1ubuntu1

You can file a bug against blender here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/blender

requesting the update. Add some detail of what has changed together with why you think it should be upgraded.

It will be considered but I suspect it will not be seen as the highest priority.

You could comple it yourself, or see if one of the PPA maintainers has any intention of packaging it

I don't know much about compiling, but i do know that there this PPA (https://launchpad.net/~irie/+archive/blender) where there is usually the most recent version of Blender, however for some reason it's not available for Quantal (I imagine I failed to compile or build). and as for the reasons I would like to see the newer version on the repository is because or 2 issues that are affecting me (or will affect me once i upgrade my production machine to Quantal when is released).

There is a package for quantal and precise (Version 2.64) at the link you gave

https://launchpad.net/~irie/+archive/blender

both were uploaded yesterday. Note: This is not an official repository so you have to decide if you wish to trust it or not.

I installed the new version of Blender (2.64.2) on Ubuntu 12.04. This is what I did:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:irie/blender
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install blender

I hope this can help you.

Bye!

Can you help with this problem?
