Define "broadcast" -- to who? How are people meant to access this "broadcast"? Which protocol?

What is your current network setup -- are you using Network Address Translation (the answer is probably yes)? Do you know about port forwarding?

When i said "broadcast" I suppose that what I meant was to be able to live video chat on facebook, yahoo etc. as for using a "network" I'm on a single home desktop as for "address forwarding, no idea and no I have never heard of "port forwarding. If you have any more questions please let me know because none of the apps. or software that I've been able to find are compatible with Ubuntu 10.10, thank you in advance for your help.

OK, so we are talking about an end-to-end conversation with someone you already know.

It depends which protocol you want to use; I don't believe that the two common instant messenging apps (empathy or pidgin) support video over the yahoo or facebook networks; however they do support doing this over their own protocols (such as direct connections). You can look at their voice and video FAQs.

The difficulty in answering your question is that we need to know what the OTHER user is running before we can determine if a connection is possible -- if you can install software on the remote machine, then absolutely it is possible.
