How to install/Set up PDF Printing in Gutsy Gibbon

Asked by labinnsw

I was able to Print to PDF from Firefox in Fiesty Fawn and older versions. I have read were Gutsy has an upgraded version of PDF printer on board but I can not get it to work. I did "sudo apt-get install cups-pdf" and "sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart" I went to printer configuration and tested. Nothing happened. Test printed this page. It gets queued for a few minutes and then dissapears in thin air after I attempt realseing it a few times. I have checked the PDF Directory and it is not there.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Try following the instructions for 7.04 under the link below:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/forum/software/cups-pdf (Avoid step #2 since its local to a particular version)

#

From the menu, select System -> Administration -> Printing. Via the "Printers" dialog, opt to add a New Printer.
#

There should now be a "PDF Printer" under the list of detected printers. Select the "PDF Printer" and press "Forward".

There is no PDF Printer!

Last post submitted in error. However, the problem is still not solved. Nothing has changed from the original post.

Thanks for your suggestion. Anything else?

I have found a solution to my problem. Before I give the solution, I would like to briefly describe what my problem was and how it started.

I had a working Feisty and upgraded to Gutsy. After that I could no longer print to PDF. I read and followed the instructions from various posts and nothing changed until last night. I found a post at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cupsys/+bug/152537 about an unrelated matter. I tried one of the solutions offered there "sudo aa-complain cupsd" and the problem was immediately fixed.

It may or may not work for you. If it does work I would like to know.
