canon mp250 printer driver installation ubuntu 10.04

I purchased a Canon MP250 Printer and I am having problems getting it to print. I have a laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 i386. I have downloaded the drivers and tried to install them. I searched and found one site that explained how to install the drivers for both print and scan but I am still unable to get it to work. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. A 'HowTo' -there's heaps of these - just try 'ubuntu mp250 canon' in google ...

Yes, I downloaded a printer driver and also a scanner driver that were both .deb files. /guidemp250series-sd-1.60-1_en/MP250series/ & /cnijfilter-mp250series-3.40-1-deb/

These files are Debian packages. The package files associated with Ubuntu have the .deb suffix because of Ubuntu's close relations with the Debian GNU/Linux distribution.

If You can see the downloaded files - Places -> Downloads

      To install a .deb file, simply double click on it, and then select Install Package

-OR-

In a terminal -Applications->Terminal

      You can also install a .deb file by opening a terminal and typing:

       Enter - cd Downloads

                   [The 'case' of is important!]

       Enter - ls

                   [you should see the 2 .deb files

      Then - sudo dpkg -i 'FILENAME'.deb

                   [enter your password if asked - you won't see the typing then press enter

                   Do this for both files.
