what kind of operating sistem ubuntu use.

i have a new hp officejet pro 8500A A910a and in order download the software they ask what kind of operating system my computer have windows XP, vista, windows 7 or what kind. please help. thank you san

Most likely they don't support Ubuntu, which is a type of Linux, as Marcus has said. Ubuntu isn't any kind of Windows, nor does it use it. I would recommend searching for an open source Linux driver for your printer.

Wrong! HP is definitely the best choice I have made for years for supporting linux (but not via the download way you are going)

I have a Pro 8000 Printer, and
-> plug the printer to the power
-> plug it via ethernet cable to the network you have
-> or via usb to your computer

printing works for me, already at this stage

-> if not already working, install "hplip-gui" via Ubuntu software-center or via
$ sudo apt-get install hplip-gui hplip
on a apps-> tools -> terminal using your password

and you have a nice program under system->preferences->hplip toolbox
which should recognize your printer ,pretty sure.

Only thing is: if you want to connect to your printer via WLAN, you need the software you mention, you need a running windows (there are ways to do that) and then set the WLAN parameters of your network via the software.

otherwise: there is no need for you for driver stuff, software, etc. Linux has it all (in that case)

once again:

you don't need this software under ubuntu.
your printer will work fine without downloading stuff.
please read my earlier response.
