What is the use of having myself as one of my contacts?

I know this might be useful in ways that I don't yet grasp, but since I was used to pidgin i find having myself on the contact list quite pointless (as well as distracting when trying to send files or anything that involves browsing through the contact list). What's the use of it? I also tried removing it but it seems impossible.

I added myself to pidgin to see which of my accounts are active.
So at least for me it is useful.

But you have to deal that for yourself.

Personally I find it very useful when just testing stuff out - you should not need to bother you friends just to check out a new theme etc.
