Is the a ppa for Eric IDE?

Asked by Kasper Elkjaer Madsen

The description says it all.

I've searched everywhere for it, but to no avail. Does it exist?

What do you expect from a PPA?
The eric and eric-api-files packages are available in the standard Ubuntu repositories.

And yes, there are at least two PPAs with versions of eric
https://launchpad.net/~skellat/+archive/ubuntu/flow1
https://launchpad.net/~phobie/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
and potentially some more https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas?name_filter=eric
(perhaps only for older Ubuntu releases).

Hello Manfred,

Thanks for replying.

I expect to get the latest stable version of the software, which is not the case with my current repositories (16.04).

Of the two first links you posted, only one seems to have the Eric IDE package and on an older version.

B.R. Kasper

Ubuntu is no rolling release. Packages in older Ubuntu releases usually stay at the version which was current at the time of publication of the Ubuntu release. Newer versions of packages are only provided with newer Ubuntu releases.

Ubuntu zesty (17.04, currently in development for publication in April) will provide a newer version of eric IDE.

In some cases it is possible to manually install a package that is intended for a newer Ubuntu release also on older ones (this is mainly dependent whether the dependencies can be met). You could try this for eric IDE.

If you want to have a recent version of eric in a PPA and nobody else is providing one, then you are invited to create your own PPA.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Kasper Elkjaer Madsen for more information if necessary.
