Zh-yue Phonetic-Code Problem with eSpeak in Cantonese

Asked by Julianloui

I've been using Cameron Wong's eSpeak phonetic-code database for Cantonese without much luck. Actually my own casual self-created phonetic representations get me results closer to Cantonese. I must be doing something wrong and would like to contact Mr. Wong for advice. When I wrote him using his yahoo.com.cn address, my ISP informed me that such an address does not exist.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, Andrew,

I installed eSpeak from the Ubuntu Software Center and my Linux is Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I've no problem s with eSpeak as far as Englishes voices go even thogh I am still looking fora female American voice option.

I think my problem is with eSpeak's implenentation of Zh-yue, namely Cantonese sound simulation, of which Mr. Wong is an expert and also the person in charge of eSpeak's Cantonese phonetic-code database. It would be
great if I can get in touch with him somehow.

Thanks for your prompt response.

Hi, Andrew,

Here's a peripheral question, but mighty important. When will Launchpad provide its users the capability to review and edit any postsat any time? TWUUG (Tidewaters Unix Users Group in Virginia ), my local Unix-Linux users group has been providing this feature at its website since its inception many years ago. Since Launchpad is much more resourceful, why this sad state of backwardness?? Is it just due to red tape?

Hi, Andrew,

Tonight I found Mr. Wong's e-mail address ( hgneng at gmail.com) and his eSpeak-related website at www.eguidedog.net. I hope this info will be of use to anyone interested in this topic.

Many thanks again.
