I have looked at this as a way to solve my problem but I didn't see a way to sync directly with my computer via the usb port? What I got out of the sync4jevolution & synceml was I need to set that up on a server somewhere?

It may be your only way as unfortunately you have a device from the mosy closed miinded shortsighted company around (Apple Inc.) so you will need to make accomodations as Apple flat refuse to support any other OS then Mac or Windows or to even try and help projects to make their (crappy) products work on other platforms.

Try installing Funambol server on your Ubuntu desktop and SyncEvolution software. For iphone you can install Funambol free app from appstore. This will alloy you to sync CONTACT ONLY due to limitation Apple Inc. set for Funambol (unless you jailbreak iphone).

Can you help with this problem?
