new user - how do I insert signature in emails

Asked by steveb001

Hi
I am trying to setup Evolution so that my signature is automatically inserted in new email messages. I have already setup a signature which I can manually insert, but I am trying to find where to automate this.

Many thanks in advance

Once you setup the signature in your email accounts settings, it is added automatically on any new e-mails. You also have the option of plain text or HTML signatures.

Have you configured the signature setting in Edit/Preferences/ for each email account you have and enabled it?

Thanks for the reply. I have checked the settings to enable my signature when creating new email and all works well now - many thanks for that. However, my signature does not appear when I reply to, or forward an email. Any suggestions?

What version of ubuntu and evolution do you have? I have Evolution 2.10.1 and ubuntu feisty with latest updates applied and my signature is inserted when I reply to or create a mail.

Alan, can you make sure that you enabled the signature for the account that you are replying with?

I can verify as well (Feisty-latest) that the signature is auto-added when you reply to an e-mail.

Thanks for your patience with this.

I have double checked the settings and have found that my signature does indeed appear on the reply / forwarded message. However, it appears at the very end of the email (i.e. after the original text of the email) - that's why I didn't spot it.........

What I need to do now is make the signature appear above the original text - any ideas?? I have tried all sorts of combinations in the composer preferences within the Evolution preferences, but no luck (with Outlook this happened automatically)

Thanks once again

The current version of Evolution Mail does not support the placement of the signature in a place other than the bottom of the e-mail.

As Evolution Mail is open-source software, one can view any enhancements that are in the pipeline, from
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/browse.cgi?product=Evolution

Clicking on the sidebar, section Severity, item "enhancement", we can view a long list of enhancements.
When we do a simple search of the page, we find the following enhancement report,

"Bug 219003 – configurable signature placement"
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=219003

This report has been solved and the feature will appear in the next version of Ubuntu, Ubuntu Linux 7.10, that will be released in October 2007.

If would be great if you could post a "Thank you" note at the report above.

Thanks for using open-source software ;-)

Thanks very much for finding this out for me - it is really appreciated. I will wait for the next version of Evolution to fix this bug (in the meantime I will cut and paste my signature block into the correct place).

Thanks once again

I noticed that the version of Evolution shipped with the beta version of Ubuntu (gutsy gibbon) now includes signature placement feature.

Hi,

I have the same issue and I'm using Gutsy Gibbon. Where can I change the signature placement behavior?

The setting was hard for me to find as well.

If you have gutsy, the placement setting is now found by:

1. open edit->preferences
2. go to composer preferences
3. it is the option called 'top posting option', about in the middle of this dialog.

I don't know why it says unrecommended, but this is the only way that a signature is usable (for me.).

This page solved my issue thank you very much.
It would be nice if we could select from the list of signatures in the email it self. Also setting the default from there would be nice too. It might not be the technically right place but I'm certain it makes sense from a usability perspective for this redundancy.
