Line length

Asked by JHL

When I compose new mail, evolution puts in newline characters in my text.
I do not want this, it destroys the readability of the text I am sending.
When I enter this text ...

Mod[1] Int[0x004 2] Time[Tue-11/Mar/2008 12:00:14] Cntr2 Hptdc: 0x00000000

It dose this to it rendering it unreadable ...

How can I switch this behaviour off and get evolution to send exactly what I type.

Hello,

I might be wrong but pure text emails have a limited line length. Try to switch to html email mode and tell if it solved your problem.

You are correct. When I use HTML format there are no inserted line
breaks. The limited line length is a "feature" of plain text. OK so I
guess I am forced to send in HTML if I don't want random line feeds
thrown in my text. What I was looking for is a configuration parameter
that lets me choose line length in plain text format. I tried to look
with the Ubuntu configuration editor, but found nothing. This plain text
message I am typing has line breaks inserted by evolution. as you can
see the length is very short. I think this is a serious draw back to the
plain text implementation in evolution. There MUST be a way to change
this, surely its not hard coded.

In fact, it's a SMTP feature :) , it doesn' allow long lines.

May be if you configure your client to generate base64 encoded emails even for pure text message ... dunno if you can force that somewhere

Can you help with this problem?
