How to recover messages from 6.06 Evolution at another partition of the same hard disk?

Asked by Jayhawker

Please,

At the same hard disk where I had Ubuntu 6.06 I've installed the 8.04 making the automatic partition. My problem is now I can't enter at the old 6.06 and therefore I can't access to my old messages in the 6.06 Evolution. At other forums I'm asking to solve that with no answer so far, but meanwhile I would like to ask, please, if is there any way to recover the old messages received and sent from the old Evolution. I can enter at the 8.04, and I see it's possible from here to enter to the other partition and consult documents, but I don't know how to find the old Evolution files and even less how to migrate them to the new Evolution at the 8.04.

I will be most grateful to have any help from you

Hi,
Here is what I've done to import DAPPER DRAKE EVOLUTION datas from old DAPPER DRAKE EVOLUTION directory in my brand new EVOLUTION running under HARDY.
I think it should give you the way to solve your problem.

1/ open EVOLUTION in HARDY, and follow instructions to create your accounts
2/ close EVOLUTION
3/ go in your old DAPPER /home, and find directory ".evolution" (with a " . ", don't forget) after having choose "see hidden files" in nautilus
4/ navigate in this ".evolution" directory and open mail directory. You should have an directory called "local". In this directory are your old DAPPER EVOLUTIONS mails. You must copy this directory in your new /home/.evolution/mail/ HARDY directory. But before, do not forget to save it, making a copy.
5/ go in your new /home/.evolution/mail/ HARDY directory. Rename the directory "local" as local.newhardy for exemple, in order to have a copy.
6/ go back to your DAPPER /home/.evolution/mail/ and make a copy of your old "local" directory. Then copy it in your new HARDY /home/.evolution/mail/

Then when you open your new HARDY EVOLUTION, your mails will appear.

If you wish to import addressbook, task aso ... do the same with directory located in same places.

Hope it will help you
