is sound available in calendar reminder

Asked by john3333

I'm a Linux (Feisty) noobee, and am enjoying learning about it.
Am using the Evolution calendar (made a launcher to start calendar screen on boot-up) and imported my appointments from Microsoft Works calendar (after exporting them from there to a file, which I then imported into Evolution).
The appointments, whether those imported or new ones I create, show up with a little 'bell' icon indicating a reminder, I suppose. But when the reminder pops up, there is no sound.
Should there be sound accompanying the reminder popup? I could not find any specific setting anywhere for this.
Any help would be appreciated.
John

Per page 67 of the Manual (http://www.gnome.org/projects/evolution/doc/evolution26.pdf) sound is available.
When you try first start your appointment and click on Alarm, you have to make the setting here. It should read "15 Minutes Before Appointment." Change that to "Customize". That will free the lower half of the screen. Click on "Add." Where it says "Popup an Alert" change that to "Play a Sound." If you want a customized sound, say your favorite song, this is the time to add it, too. Click "OK," and then "Close." You should be all set.

hello theformerprophet:
is there any other way to get sounds started? The notification sounds in Thunderbird 1.5 worked well, with evolution I hear nothing, neither for incoming mails nor for alarms set. I chose a sound from /usr/share/sounds which worked well in Thunderbird but doesn't work at all in evolution. Any other possibility to get them audible?
Thanks for any hint on this
mr Claes

mr Claes, I will check into it as soon as I get back home on Monday. I
am on my sister's laptop right now trying to do some school work, etc.
We're having a family reunion this weekend.
