Removing Firefox 3 Beta 5

Asked by coffeelover1278

Is it possible to uninstall Firefox 3 Beta 5 from Ubuntu 8.4. I want to go back to using Firefox 2, because I can't download a lot of the toolbars I want, nor can I find many downloads that are compatible. I tried to go into Synaptic Package Manager to uninstall it form there. I can install Firefox 2 from there, but I don't need 2 versions of Firefox

Yes, it is, just remove it (I have also removed FF3 and no problem...).

I learned from using Thunderbird that a lot of extensions have too aggressive version checking. For instance the en_GB dictionary failed when I upgraded from one 2.0.0.x to another.

To be more specific look for the install.rdf-file where it contains the lines <em:maxVersion>1.0.0.*</em:maxVersion>
There might be several instances of such lines, and which one matters might vary. Simply change it to something higher and test if it works or not. Some will work, others might fail.
