Yahoo contacts import from Win XP Pro to Ubuntu

Asked by NavinBetamax

I am using AMD Athlon Desktop Dual Booting Win Xp Pro Service pack 3 and Ubuntu Hardy Heron. I am new to Linux, but I find it better than Win Xp ( faster ). I have an e-mail account in Yahoo now on Win Xp.
I am not able to configure or set up my ID when I use Ubuntu. I would like help in setting up Ubuntu to get all my contacts from Yahoo and use them for chat...e-mail..etc when I am using Ubuntu. I am more used to Win Xp, I am not able to understand certain terms used in Ubuntu. Once I set it up I am going to dump Xp. I have 2 120 gb harddrives. Ubuntu is Loaded on the newer HD. seperately. Please help me. If someone could walk me through, I would me most obliged. Please help

Yahoo email does not allow pop3 access for unpaid accounts. Pidgin (im client) will import your yahoo chat contacts for you when you connect to the server IIRC. Gmail integrates well with ubuntu and supports pop3and IMAP if you are in a position to switch email providers.
