I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 with firefox 3.01. It should still be the same, but t change email to thunderbird, type in "mail" in the search bar.

You should now see a two column result with "mailto" on the left and "use evolution" or something else, on the right.

click on "use evolution." The dropdown list will appear. You will need to choose "use other."

In the screen that appears, type in "/usr/bin/thunderbird".
If you can't type, turn off the breadcrumbs by clicking on the "pen and paper" icon.

Hit Open and then Close.

Then, setup KDE to use Thunderbird:

   1. Open the KDE Control Center by clicking on K and selecting Control Center.
   2. In the Control Center window, click to expand KDE Components.
   3. Click to select Component Chooser.
   4. Click to select Email Client.
   5. Click to select the Use a different email client radio button.
   6. Type the full path to your e-mail client (e.g. /usr/bin/thunderbird).
   7. Click Apply to close the Control Center window and save your changes.

The KDE Steps were taken from

Good luck

Hmm. That's strange. Close Firefox. Go ahead and make the settings for Kubuntu in the KDE Control Panel. Then try it again in Firefox, please.

I already have my system set up to use tb, that's the email client I use. Also when I klick the K I do not have a control center option. I'll check back later. thanks.

I think it's called System Settings in Kubuntu...
http://www.kubuntu.org/docs/kquickguide/C/ch03s07.html

Try the system settings and then choose KDE Compnents, following the instructions Isent earlier...

You've hit a known bug:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=409192

It's solved upstream, but still has to arrive in Ubuntu.

Unfortunately there seems to be no one simple solution to get it working now, as what works for one person does not necessarily work for another.

Try this first, type "about:config" in the address bar. Find or create "network.protocol-handler.app.mailto" and setting it to the correct program, in your case "/usr/bin/thunderbird".

If this doesn't work look in your Firefox profile folder for "mimeTypes.rdf" and report the values for "urn:scheme:externalApplication:mailto".

When you click on a URL in ThunderBird a window should open and click choose.
And on that page upper left there is a place where it ask you to write in to search.

Put this in there /usr/bin/firefox and click OK..and then check mark to do this
all the time. Make sure you save this cause there are different once you have to do
this for.....
