Mozilla Firefox (3.0 beta 5) comes with "iTunes Application Detector" plugin.

iTunes does not even exist for Linux. This plugin has no purpose.

Well since iTunes does not exist for Linux, I don't think the plugin should be included.

It just uses resources, possibly making Firefox slower, unstable and unsecure. Maybe there are some security vulnerability there which can be exploited.

It serves no purpose. There are no reason to keep it. Many reasons to remove it.

There is a https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/212455 already included into the "Wishlist" as you can see.

Hope this helps

I was able to remove this plugin by doing the following:

1. Close all instances of Firefox
2. Move (as root) the following file out of the /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins directory: librhythmbox-itms-detection-plugin.so

What does it do?
Why is it there?

It says "This plug-in detects the presence of iTunes when opening iTunes Store URLs in a web page with Firefox".
In Firefox, Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins.
You can disable it by clicking the 'Disable' button.

Maybe it has todo like if you open this link;
* http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/curb/id214476708
It tries to open it with Rhythmbox?
But I don't know why.

What is good for? Absolutely nothing!

* http://itunes.com/Nickelback/Curb

But Rhythmbox cant play it... so why bother?

Rhythmbox handles iTunes podcasts apparently: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=439646

Questionable feature but has a purpose...

Can you help with this problem?
