to marcobra: The youtube video plays.
But the Yahoo video doesn't. It opens and then stops.
Thanks for your help.
I will try naufal's idea and if that works, then everything will be ok.

Please also to try Firefox-3.0 to play that videos:
Open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install firefox-3.0

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Open Firefox 3.0 from Applications->Internet->Firefox 3.0 "Gran Paradiso"
Then try to visit a flash video required page for example:
http://video.search.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=17432&vw=g&b=0&pos=7&p=cat&fr=yfp-t-501
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P1s3aOnDhc

the Firefox 3.0 browser install flash player in a working way.
When you open the Firefox (2) it usually start works good with flash.

Hope this helps

To raptor: I tried both Granparadiso and naufal's idea.

This was naufal's idea: it worked because I can get the Yahoo videos now but the sound is sometimes garbled. I found the mozilla-mplayer in World Wide Web (multiverse or universe) and installed it.

or you can try this recipe,
1:open your synaptic package manager.
2:search for mozilla-mplayer and install it
3:search for mozilla-plugin-vlc and install it
4:restart the browser
you should be able to play the yahoo video..
hope this help...

Then I tried marcobra's idea and that worked. I installed Granparadiso but I didn't see much difference. However, the Adobe flash player seems to have been required. I installed that plug-in with Granparadiso and the videos worked.
The BBC Headlines worked with Totem movie player, and sometimes they didn't. So, I tried MSN and all the videos played, no problem. The YouTube plays but with some problems. Some videos don't and some do.

I hope this helps.

To raptor: Did you enable your updates?

1. Go to System
2. Choose Administration
3. Choose Software sources and check to see what has been enabled.
4. Where it says Ubuntu software, check the four first boxes
5. Where it says Updates check to see if some of these are enabled. If they aren't, you could click on Important security updates, as well as Recommended Updates, See if Check for updates Daily is enabled also.

The above worked for me and after I got the updates everything else seemed to work too.
Hope this helps as well.
Sandra
