setting print border/margins (L-R) and (T-B) in gedit--not apparently available in menu

I am looking for the menu item in gedit to set the margins/borders for printing. The default margins are too small to allow easy page binding when I print (double sided) reference copies of fortran code I have written. In the version I used on FC 9, there was a menu option to create a custom print setting. This seems to be absent in the version that comes with Ubuntu 11.10. May I change settings in a configuration file somewhere?

you can go into your printer properties and set the margins there.

Actually, I found the answer: in the print menu under 'Page Setup', select 'Paper Size', and then select 'Manage Custom Size'. There one can select the print boundaries and margins. The result appears as 'Custom Size 1'. I use that as my paper size to print hard copies of my fortran programs, as they can then be bound when printed on both sides of the sheet.

I should have been more persistent at the time. The answer emerged with a little more probing of the buried headings...

Having just printed 12 pages with the tiny margin I tride to set the margins as suggested. "Manage Custom Size" was at the bottom of a super long list.

I was able to set the values I want but there was no button to save them. The only reasonable way out was to poke the PRINT button even though I really didn't want to waste the paper.

The printer ran out of paper with 3 pages which still had the tiny left margin.

"printer properties" ??? Where is that menu otion? Part of gedit? Or in the system somewhere else.

Others have said that gedit is a text editor and should not be expected to print at all, let alone print so one can save the paper in a binder.

If that's the idea then there should be no print option at all.
