Sure, go into the settings → 3rd tab → Choose "Oblivion"!

You can select the colour rules at
    Edit > Preferences > Fonts & Colors > Color Scheme

Oblivion has a dark background.

You can create your own colour schemes by copying a scheme and editing it. Such as
    cp /usr/share/gtksourceview-3.0/styles/oblivion.xml ~/.local/share/gtksourceview-3.0/styles/mystyle.xml
    gedit ~/.local/share/gtksourceview-3.0/styles/mystyle.xml
    <make changes>
    <quit gedit>
    <restart gedit>
   <per above, select mystyle>
