Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .

I'd re-run the palimpsest disk utility again, System->Administration->Disk Utility and select the Hard Disk and click on the More Information link and re-run a self test. This will interrogate the SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) diagnostics on your drive. If it reports bad sectors then I personally would get a new driver as soon as possible and transfer your data onto the new drive and stop using the one with sector errors.

Any disk errors like this may mean a catastrophic disk failure in the near future.

Can you help with this problem?
