cannot play media accessed from my server

cannot play media accessed from my server and main pc

. have 3 ubuntu base pc all running 12.04lts and one windows pc which working ok shares etc

. the ubuntu pc can access the server with FTP install in ubuntu

.the problem is all pc show folders and files everthing on server are shown on the ubuntu pcs can open then move them around click on the flims and mp3 files but they will not play with vlc etc will open up as if to play no error message apart vlc unable to play the server is a Zyxel NSA310 contact them they say no patch /driver for linux base o/s but say use ftp which is bulit into there unit but could not help any further ...

gnome-nettool in Ubuntu so how do use it and set up to acces the files

If you mount the share with nautilus, you can run:

mount

and see the mount point. You can then access it via that. Is it ok then?

how do i mount the point with nautilus ? i can access the server see the files in all of my ubuntu pcs but cannot access the files ie play the mp3s or the movies from all of the 12.04 pc .accesss is via ftp any other way to contact to the does not work
