Mobile broadband not working anymore.

Asked by Dassiswas

After upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 my mobile broadband gives me an error:

"Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 32: mount: block device /dev/sr1 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: /dev/sr1 already mounted or /media/Mobile Partner busy"

The thingy worked very well during my time with 9.04. What's the solution?

This could be related to a bug which maked some mobile broadband USB stick unusable.
A fix for it is in development and should be available in the next days.

I've just done the same upgrade, Clean install actually, the upgrade was a disaster, and have exactly the same problem & error with my 3UK 3G USB Modem.
Worked fine on 9.04 in fact it was the easiest setup I've ever known. I did nothing, it was just up & running.
9.1 No Go - No Internet.

Hi,the same problem here. I also installed Ubuntu 9.10 at my working place ... most of the stuffs are OK.. when I went back home where I am using Huawei Modem it is simply not working..and I can not do anything now.....

Looks like whenever upgrading Ubuntu from one version to a new one you always have to sacrifice something,,, i remember from 8.04 to 8.10 i sacrificed my Huawei ZTE CDMA modem and now Huawei GSM modem..

I have exactly the same problem, and this makes Karmic completely useless.
I can't even get any further updates without my mobile broadband connection.
That would be quite useful to make some information available if there is a solution.

The only answer by now is that it will be fixed in a few days?
Is the solution published in the days since the "answer"?
How can it be applied, if any, when the network can not be reached in the released Karmic?

There is a new kernel version in "karmic-proposed". You can activate it in the software sources and give it a try.
But remember software in proposed is still not fully tested.

Ive had to give up completely on 9.10 and revert to 9.04. There were 27 crashes and numerous errors during the installation and if I do get Internet connectivity I know what a nightmare the rest of it is going to be.

As kisszt points out, an OS which is totally dependent upon an Internet connection is not a lot of use if it can't connect to the Internet.
Tried both the 32Bit & 64 Bit versions with the same results.

Point of interest, Puppy doesn't work with Mobile Broadband either. Insists upon a user name & password which of course these devices don't require.

I considered 3's tiny wireless router which you plug your dongle into. Last time I looked it was about £49. Still, it doesn't cure the serious problem with the OS, just circumvents it(possibly).
If 9.10 reconises & works with your WiFi this could be a temporary fix.(bodge)
