Kernel and modules

Good morning,
I installed the ubuntu version 9.10 in my laptop and have to configure an usb modem for internet connection.
The guide is referring to the installation of the source kernel and usb & serial modules prior installing the SW for the usb modem.
Where can I find the source kernel and usb and serial modules?
