GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet missing from the "Add to Panel" dialog

Asked by Francis Bolduc

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

When I try to add an object to my Gnome Panel from the "Add to Panel" dialog, I cannot choose GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet. This means that if I ever remove GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet from the panel, I cannot add it back.

Tested on Lucid Alpha 3.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

Hi Chris,

The issue I reported is not a question. I believe it is a bug; and a really easy one to fix.

When right-clicking on the gnome-panel, then clicking on the "Add to Panel...", the Add to Panel dialog appears. It is possible from this dialog to add new stuff into the gnome-panel.

However, the "User Switcher" item in the Add to Panel dialog does not add the right entry into the gnome-panel.

The entry added to the gnome-panel is:

GNOME_FastUserSwitchAppletGdm

But it should be:

GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet

That is the bug.

Regards,
Francis

Actually, as Sebastien Bacher pointed out to me, the Fast User Switcher is available in the applet list under another name. It's called "Indicator Applet Session".
