no unity, no panels anymore

Asked by John Doe

hi

 i installed natty today, looks great

i dont like unity so i locked out and started with ubuntu classic, but everytime i reboot natty started with unity
so i unchecked unity in the compiz settings manager and then it was gone.

i couldnt do anything because there was no unity and no panels so i restartet.

after the restart there is no unity and there are no panels, no menu, no awn.
the only thing that still works is easystroke.

with easystroke i can access folders and firefox but thats it.

is there a way to lock out and start with ubuntu classic for good

i also cant access tty because ctrl+alt+f1-f6 gives me a black screen.

need help

If you run:

gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/panel && killall gnome-panel

Do the panels run?

CTRL+ALT+T is the universal shortcut to get the terminal, so doesn't need any panels running...

Glad you got the gold

how do you boot in the recovery mode?
I can either shutdown or restart.

2actionparsnip: gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/panel && killall gnome-pane
doesn't work
no such file or directory "gconftool--recursive-unset/apps/panel"

Ive tried all the above things and I have no panels since upgrading to 11,04
There have been issues reported concerning n-vidia cards and unity. I have an dell xp1340 studio latop.
wondering if the prob is related to hardware

I've got nVidia GeForce 8400 GS.
Even in 10.10 I sometimes needed to restart to have panels.

ps. somebody can change the status of this thread from "solved"?
