Panel not responding

i'm using 10.04 lucid lynx.i tried an autohide option for the panel (right clicking the panel and then properties (I guess!!)).

after a few minutes or so the panel became not responding. none of the buttons on the panel seems working.

Right clicking the panel doesnt even work. i am not able to log out.

i'm now shutting off the computer using Ctrl+Alt+del.

i'm a total newbie to ubuntu.

have got no idea about the terminal commands and how to operate it..

HELP ME OUT PLEASE

you need to enable special effect.
after you log onto to ubuntu, right click on the desktop and select change desktop background. on the window that pops up, select the visual effects tab. then click normal or extra.

i tried with normal now. after downloading and installing driver software they asked me to run appearance/desktop effects after restarting where can i find that??

gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/panel && killall gnome-panel

Will reset the panel to defaults, you can then build it back up on vanilla settings.

resetting all panels with gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/panel && killall gnome-panel solved my problem of not responding panels
