sytem completely scrambled.

I installed the updates as suggested. Afterward, I tried to go to e-mail, Background changed, and would not close. Then no folders of desktop files would not open. They would clash, then overlap, then the screen just went crazy. Can I restore the computer to the previous status befor the download? How. Please help me. I am new to Ubuntu and I just started on Saturday. Everything is completly out of sync.!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Please when your system is started press ctrl + alt + f1 and please made login with your user and password
then please type:

sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get --fix-misising install
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

and to reboot the pc type:

sudo reboot

Also can you give the output of:

cat /etc/lsb-release; uname -a
