gnome-screensaver lock my Ubuntu 10.04

Asked by William Lott

I have a Compaq Evo computer with a Dell flatscreen monitor. I upgraded from 9:10 that worked fine to 10.04. Now sound doesn't work, screensaver locks up system (creates lines on screen that look like a piano keyboard) so I have to reboot and it won't let me change the screensaver. Can I downgrade from10.04 back to 9.10 without losing all my settings and installed software?
