How to configure Gnome Screensaver in 11.10

Asked by Mannex

I have 11.10 and have installed the Gnome Shell over Unity. I know that the gnome-screensaver is running, and when I lock the screen, it just goes blank. Is there any way to configure a different screensaver?

sudo apt-get install xscreensaver xscreensaver-data xscreensaver-gl xscreensaver-gl-extra
Then go to Activities/Applications/xscreensaver and set it up.

It you can kill the gnome saver from here and get xscreen running.

Sorry, what I meant by different screensaver was a different module (i.e. not blank screen) within the Gnome screen saver. In other words, how do I configure the Gnome screen saver? There used to be a utility to do that, but it seems to have disappeared, which is odd since the gnome-screensaver is running.

Never mind. I figured it out myself. I just gotta wonder why no one bothered to have them installed by default. Seems to me if you're going to release software, it ought to be ready. Just saying...

So what did you do to to change the way it is configured?
Thanks in advance. Bob.

I ended up installing xscreensaver (as Harry described in #1 above) and configuring it. Although for some reason at least two of the modules are not loading into the configuration program, but in general it works.
