With Ubuntu where is the screen-saver?
I have Ubuntu 11.04 and I cannot find a screen-saver either in the Installed Packages or the ones I can install. So where do I look for a Screen-saver?

That would of helped if I had 'applications'. But I click on the symbol for the 'Dashboard'. When I put in the Search Box - Screen Saver it comes up blank. When I scroll though all the Installed and Unstalled Packages there is no 'Screen Saver'. I had it before I updated to Ubuntu 11.04 on the Ubuntu 10.04 Lts. But, this version lacks any kind of screen saver as far as I can tell. There is 'Screen Shot', but I do not want to get any pictures of what I look at online. That happened with the last version. I even searched all the 'Software Packages to be Added' and I cannot find a Screen Saver, unless it is called something else and I don't know it. So still need help.

Look for 'gnome-
if you don't have it, install by opening a terminal and typing :
sudo apt-get install gnome-screensaver
To get more screensaver packages:
sudo apt-get install rss-glx xscreensaver-data xscreensaver-gl xscreensaver-
You may also use synaptic and search for 'screensaver'

Hi,
I did the first 'gnome-screensaver' and it now says it is installed when I get the 'synaptic package manager' up. But, how do I locate it elsewhere? Notice there are other screensaver aps that can be installed. Do I need them? This did install several packages or at least they are highlighted. But, still cannot find the Screensaver.

Opening a terminal and typing 'gnome-screensaver' should launch it.

Hi,
Got a Terminal up, typed in the below about preferences. Came up 'No such file or Directory' or something like that. Any other suggestions.

Could you give the output of 'locate screensaver | grep /usr/bin' (typed in a terminal) ?

Hi,
Yes, I was able to put that in a terminal and I got a long list of '/usr/bin' with different things after it. Also there are several different ones with the word 'screensaver' but I don't know which one I need. Any more info?

For instance, on my computer, for 'locate gnome-screensaver | grep /usr/bin', I got:
manutm@
/usr/bin/
/usr/bin/
/usr/bin/
Do the same on yours and try them until you find the good one.

Hi,
There is a big long list. Highlighter 3 of them and press enter but all that did was gave me a new prompt each time. So then I picked out one that had 'desktop' at the end and when I entered it I got 'No such file or command'. So even getting the list on the terminal I cannot seem to do much with it. Got to get ready to see a doctor, but will try again when I get back this afternoon.
