Ubuntu 12.04 logging me out

Asked by Kristin Lapointe

Just earlier I was browsing the internet, reading an article, and my screen went black and I had been logged out. When I logged back in I got an error report but no details about what happened. This has happened before under simular circumstances. I had been on for only a couple minutes both times when it happened. The programs I had opened acted as they usually would if they had crashed. I'm not sure where to check to find out what's going on, or how to fix it, if possible?

Is there a specific file I should be reading to find what's going on, or is there a workaround? I have looked for similar questions, but none have answers. Any guidance would be appreciated! It doesn't happen often - in the past two weeks I have only been logged out twice.

It happened again just earlier, and I got this in /var/log/auth.log (it seemed abnormal compared to the other messages, around the time that it logged me out).

Similar messages appeared yesterday around the time I was logged out, and again several days ago,the first time I was logged out.
