Process %CPU and Resources different

When I have Gnome System Monitor up it causes the CPU to have widely different % loads. These loads seem to fluctuate between 10 to 14 at the low end and 36 to 23 on the high end as shown on the tab Processes, %CPU. The cycles occur about every 20 to 30 seconds. Meanwhile on the tab Resources, the CPU History cycles from between 20 to 40% then jumps up to 100%. At the same time, the Processes %CPU is showing in the 30% range. Now this cycling doesn't seem to happen if the view is on the Resources tab. But but the view on the Processes tab and the cycling begins. Additionally, while Gnome System Monitor is up the fan is more on than off.

the gnome system monitor does a lot to gather and present the data on your various processes, it also uses various anti-aliasing techniques for the graphs displaying the info, these things all cost cpu cycles. if you want a more lightweight system monitor you should run the command 'top' in a terminal

Sytem Monitor v2.26.0.1 displays a permanent CPU load of 100%. When I am calculating the sum of "% CPU" column values I get a result of max. 30% to 35% lotal load.

Have a cool idea what's wrong ?
