Navigation problem

This entire Linux process is very confusing. I am not sure what a Wiki is supposed to be nor whether I should even be participating. I know virtually nothing about the Linux way of doing things, even after several weeks of looking and trying to learn. Every explanation of a simple thing, like installing Flash, I try to track down leads to a volume of words that involve processes I know nothing about and canoot intuit what they could possibly mean. I am simply trying to find a way to relate to ubuntu Linux that doesn't read like merely a bunch of gobbledeegook. There are no babysteps anywhere indicated that I can find. If I could find them, I would leave you gearheads alone until I could walk the baby walk, but apparently this tribe has no ignorant young, such as my 66 year old self. Without some kind of entree into the workings of this complex operating system, I will never find it useful. I tried to sign the Code of Conduct agreement, but even that leads to establishing a set of credentials whose purpose I cannot fathom. Where is the proper place for me to start?

If you cannot guess what a command does reading its manpage(with: man command) is always a good idea.

Macromedia Flash Player installer.

Does this mean, that since I am working on a Mac PowerBook in ubuntu
(Dapper) that I cannot use Linux Flash player OR must I somehow use the
PPC version OR must I learn to modify this Linux installer so it will
work on this PPC?

Macromedia (who develop the flash plugin) only create one for intel x86 based machines, not PPC (pre-intel macs) and other architectures. They say that they will release a mac version early next year.

You can't really do anything but wait though if you really wanted you could try compiling and using gnash (see http://www.gnu.org/software/gnash/), this is unfinished software though and if you did get it built, it won't work on all sites.
