Asked by Westin Lohne

Ok, so i love Ubuntu but i want to try out gOS...i went to their website and found out that i could run it using this program called VMWare...i looked in thew add or remove programs ap and this is what it said

Canonical Ltd. provides technical support and security updates for VMware Player
The use, modification and distribution of VMware Player is restricted by copyright or by legal terms in some countries.
VMware Player cannot be installed on your computer type (i386). Either the application requires special hardware features or the vendor decided to not support your computer type.

So then i went to gos's website and found they had a vmware.tar.gz download..i downloaded it but i dont know how to install it....can i get some help on how to installl vmware AND gOS on my system?

Thanks,
Westin

Hi

The version of VMware Player that is in the repositories is the version that is supported by Ubuntu. If you download from other sites, we may not be able to help with problems as the configurations will likely not be the same.

Regardless, to install it, follow the instructions in the VMware guide, link is http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vmware_player200.pdf starting on page 10. If you haven't enabled the root account (it is NOT a good idea to enable it), you will need to use sudo instead of su when installing.

Good luck.
