Driver Nvidia

NO puedes instalar el último driver de Nvidia en tu 5700Le. Tu tarjeta no
está soportada por la serie 177, tendrás que instalar la serie 173. Para
ello, vete a Sistema > Administración > Controladores de hardware.

Eso ya lo hice, pero me da muchos problemas, ya que cuando apago y vuelvo a encender el equipo, la resolución de la pantalla me cambia a 800x600. Incluso reparando en el inicio del sistema, no puedo habilitar el controlador 3D.
Es por eso que intento instalar un controlador más actual.

Sabes que versión es la óptima para instalarla o bien que solución darle al problema.

Prueba a hacerlo a mano. Abre una terminal y pon lo siguiente:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall nvidia-glx-173 linux-restricted-modules
sudo nvidia-xconfig

Y reinicia. Si sigue sin ir, vuelve a poner

sudo nvidia-xconfig

Y vuelve a reiniciar. Si sigue sin ir, dinos la salida de estos comandos

sudo rmmod nvidia
sudo modprobe nvidia
dmesg | tail

Por fin he podido descargarme la versión 173.14.12-pkg1.run.

La tengo en mi escritorio pero no sé cómo ejecutarla desde un terminal ya que me indica que no se encuentra el paquete.

¿Me podrias indicar cuál es el comando y la ruta para poder ejecutarlo desde mi escritorio?
Muchas gracias y perdón por la ignorancia, estoy empezando en Linux y me cuesta un poco.

El error esta que que pegastes la barra invertida al nombre debes darle un
espacio de separacion
./ 173.14.12-pkg1.run

En donde esta el archivo pkg?? Debes posicionarte en la carpeta en la
consola, mediante el comando cd. O mejor, deja el archivo en tu carpeta
personal (/home/nombredetuusuario) y prueba de nuevo el comando sin el
espacio.

El archipo pkg está en mi directorio. Lo que ocurre es que cuando desde el
terminal utilizo cd jmgomez para ir a mi carpeta me indica que no se
encuentra.

"jmgomez@jmgomezubuntu:~$ cd jmgomez
bash: cd: jmgomez: No existe el fichero ó directorio
jmgomez@jmgomezubuntu:~$ "

y si ejecuto directamente desde la consola me indica:

"jmgomez@jmgomezubuntu:~$ ./173.14.12-pkg1.run
bash: ./173.14.12-pkg1.run: No existe el fichero ó directorio
jmgomez@jmgomezubuntu:~$ "

No sé si el cd de linux funciona igual que el de windows.
Cuando abro una consola se supone que estoy en mi directorio de usuariol,
¿no?.

Mmm, si intentas entrar a la carpeta de tu usuario estando en ella logico
que aparecera un error.

Al iniciar la consola, por defecto ya esta en tu directorio, /home/jmgomez.
Lo que debes hacer es copiar el archivo que descargaste en la carpeta
/home/jmgomez., es la misma que la Carpeta personal.

luego si ejecutalo desde consola.

Hola juanma, dices que tienes el archivo en el escritorio?
debes hacer lo siguiente:

cd Escritorio/
./173.14.12-pkg1.run

(Ojo no deben haber espacios entre el ./ y el archivo.)

PD: una cosa mas, dices que es el driver de Nvidia, este comando se debe
ejecutar por fuera del entorno grafico (Ojo); debes cerrarlo primero, asi:

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
(ahi se te pone la pantalla negra)

Para ingresar a una terminal en ese punto, presionas CTRL+ALT+F1, ahi te
indentificas y realizas los pasos que anteriormente te dije; para
arrancar el instalador de Nvidia se requieren permisos de root, asi que
acuerdate de anteponer sudo.

En conclusion lo primero es salir del entorno grafico, y despues
ejecutar el instalador de Nvidia con permisos de root; y listo todo
debera funcionar bien si lo haces correctamente.

una cosa mas juanma, ahí en la pagina de Nvidia de donde descargaste el
driver, sugieren que leas primero el archivo README que ahi se
proporciona, en este te explican detalladamente lo que te acabe de
decir; ya sabes todo es cuestion de leer un poco.
