grub loading problem

Help!

I am running Xp and Ubuntu 6.06 on my intel PC.

when i start my computer i get this message.

GRUB loading Please Wait

then i get the following message

GNU GRUB Version 0.97 (630K Lower/ 259904K Upper Memory)

ERROR 18: Selected cylinder exceeds maximum supported by Bios.

Please help me i m in a lot of trouble coz i have very valuable data stored on the PC.
