grub 22 error no disk will boot

Asked by david johnson

The screen shows:

GRUB LOADING STAGE 1.5.
GRUB LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
ERROR 22

I have tried the following disks, yet they do not open and the above message appears every time:

super grub
unbutu alternate
unbuntu live
ms dos
xp install

windows claims no hard drive present.

I can not get to the terminal to re position grub, any suggestions are welcome.

Thank you one and all, david

Hello Christophe,

Thank you for responding. This is a self inflicted problem. I was successfully running Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.1 when I decided to create a new partition to install windows XP (previously running in Virtual Box) for a particular application I need. I mistakenly gave the wrong command while using Get Parted Live 0.4.1.2   I have absolutely know idea what to do and the Acer service rep refuses to help on this as the machine was designed for windows Vista, what ever that means.   Any ideas?

Again, thank you,  david

David,

Well Acer won't help due to the fact that the os is changed..I know you Ubuntu is where you may have wanted it but you may have to go a different route. Reinstall windows completely then install ubuntu from the live disk on top during the install DO NOT choose full disk use the advanced to use partion there make sure to give Ubuntu 4 plus gig I give it 10 or more.

follow it all the want through. install the new MBR with grub loader and it should find the windows and add it if it does not find you can use grob to find and add to the menu.

Best Regards,
Leo

Thank you Leo and you as well Christophe,

The computer will not accept the disks mentioned. Each time I boot with the disk or install the disk after booting the same ERROR 22 comes up and the key board returns only a pinging sound. I can not access the rescue/repair mode or install a new MBR with the screen locked and the keyboard unresponsive. I am writing to you from my wife's computer.

I am getting the feeling that this may well be a new problem as so far all suggestions have been to load a new disk in a machine that will not accept a disk. I fully appreciate every ones help this. I will now download another ubuntu and see if perhaps my original copy is corrupted. Keep those ideas coming, something will work given enough time.

thanks, david

I would like to thank every one for your assistance. This is a wonderful community, if the entire world functioned like this, we would have peace.
