Lucid boots on 2.6.31-21-generic but not on 2.6.32-19-generic

Asked by A. Cooper

Pentium4 with 2mb ram. WindowsXPsp3 loaded on /dev/sda1. Lucid loaded on /dev/sdb5. Grub Version 1.97~beta4.
Windows works ok. Lucid will boot up if select 2.6.31-21-generic. Will NOT boot up with default 2.6.32-19-generic, gets to UBUNTU logo and vegitates. If I use edit option, the script for both is same except for version number. I can boot from script for 2.6.32-19 using control-x
Can anyone help?
My knowledge of Linux is limited, so if further info is reqd pls advise what and where to find it.

Try reinstalling the newer kernel. To do this:
Boot into Ubuntu using 2.6.31-21-generic.
Go to System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager (Enter password when prompted)
In the "Quick search" box at the top type:
linux-image
Now scroll through the list until you find linux-image-2.6.32-19-generic
Right click it and, from the popup menu, click Mark for Reinstallation
Now click Apply at the top, and wait for it to be reinstalled.

When you restart, allow it to try booting with the newer kernel. Hopefully it'll now work.
