grub loading. the symbol ' ' not found. I got this after regular apt-get update.

Asked by Christiano

I´ve made a clean instalation of kubuntu 9.10 in a dell inspiron 1545 machine, with windows 7.
The instalation was quite easy without any problems. I could install some programs like netbeans, firefox, compiz, mysql,
and the machine worked fine several days, with this dual boot configuration.
After a regular apt-get update, grub 1.974 beta was updated to grub2... then the system failed to start, giving this:
Grub loading.
The symbol ' ' not found.
Aborted. Press any key...

and after that, I could not anymore use the laptop, cause after press any key, got the same message, then tried again and the system reboot, and shows the message again - infinite loop.
I´ve reinstalled kubuntu 9.10 with the live cd, and now it's working, but I see the update info about the grub 2 and I am scared to update the system and lose my access again.
Are there any way to update the system, includind the grub package, without have this behaviour?

You can always reinstall grub if it fails using the Ubuntu live install cd... without reinstall the whole operative system...

It does look like you're having the same problem that I am, perhaps this can be of assistance, I also I did "Link existing bug," check to see if this applies.
