what command do input to terminate a synaptic package manager that froze up

I reloaded my Java jre 5.0 and synaptic package manager will not close I remember a few days ago I used a command like....dpk --a or some thing to that effect. Thanks for your help.

First of all you do a "killall synaptic" to stop synaptic. Then you have to do a "dpkg -a" to configure packages which have not been configured.
