libdvdread4 and /.dvdcss when using ddrescue or vlc

Asked by Kirk Erickson

Question: what generates the last segment of the foldername in the ./dvdcss directory?

Pretty sure I'm using a latest version of libdvdread4

Situation:

Archiving some old dvd with ddrescue to creante a iso. ddrescue will not work properly until I load the dvd once in VLC.

What I find is that if I run ddrescue I will get a folder in the ~/.dvdcss with the name of the dvd with a set of 0. Like so.

SOMEDVD-1997020714340000-0000000000

After loading the dvd in VLC there is another folder entry with non zero values.

SOMEDVD-1997020714340000-2be3f61955

With this folder ddrescue will properly convert the dvd to iso.
