How to soft-switch off the Radio Frequency Kill Switch in Maverick?

Asked by Detlef Lechner

[Maverick] dmesg: "ipw2200: Radio Frequency Kill Switch is On: Kill Switch must be turned off for wireless networking to work." This computer MD97600 does not have a hardware RF Kill switch. In the past I used Ubuntu 9.04 and had a program to switch off the RF Kill switch. After dist-upgrading in Maverick the old key combination does no longer switch off the RF Kill switch. I have lost my notes about the old switch-off program. How to set up in Maverick a RF Kill soft switch program? Using Google I could not find an answer to this question. http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/networkmanager does not even mention Maverick.

There is the 'rfkill' command from the wireless-tools package which can enable/disable the RF switches. See 'rfkill help' but usually network manager should be able to disable RF soft blocks.

Can you help with this problem?
