mapserver question

Asked by Tim Henderson

Folks --
After a lot of frustration trying to compile mapserver or FGS from source on my Ubuntu Hardy 64-bit box, I was REALLY happy to see how easy it was to install from apt-get once I found the package names
Two questions:
A. Do I understand correctly that dependencies listed in the package details are automatically incorporated -- no need to fire up individual things like the "--with-php:DIR" when configuring source? It's all there if there were no errors in apt-get install?
B.Is it possible to add other things like flash (ming library) support? I installed the ming library before installing mapserver, but saw no flash output in "mapserv -v" -- I would like to have flash and -- like Jerry -- kamap ...

Pardon the stupid questions but I'm very happy with how easy this is so far.

A. yes dependacies are automatically handled, basically the point of apt-get :)

B, no, generally things like 'flash' won't be included with packages because of licencing/trademark/copyright problems - if you need things that arn't provided in the package you installed you generally will have to compile the package yourself

Can you help with this problem?
