10.10: Nautilus

Asked by peter

Hi

I would get the properties of a file system (in the left part of Nautilus). But I can't choose it, because it's not suggested.

What can I do? Thanks in advance.
Peter

get the properties of a file system?

For example I would know how much disk space the file system takes.

well, you can select the folder, and check its properties, this will tell you its disk usage... but...

under unix, a single folder may reference more than one drive; for example the "/" folder is the base folder, and your drives are given a "mount point" (an associated folder) that allows access to that drive's contents.

For example / is a parent of /media and /home. /media/ may well contain /media/my_usb_disk, /media/my_cd_rom, /media/my_external_hdd

What you probbaly want to look for is the disk space utility, under the administration menu This gives you a pretty ring chart:

No, I can't select the folder to check the properties. Because if I click the right mouse button, Properties is not listed.

if you don't like the disk utility that's under system>administration, you can probably find other utilities in the software center that's to your liking.

OK, I guess I got it. The Disk Usage Analyzer prints the used disc space. So my demands are fulfilled. Thanks!
