Problem with copying/drag and dropping files

Asked by Stephen Mark

I am trying to copy files from a Hard Disk Drive and transfer them to a flash card. I highlight files and click COPY and then click on flash card and there is no option to PASTE. I am running a dual core Dell Inspiron 6400 with 2GB RAM

It is little things like this that keeps me from advising my friends and colleagues to use UBUNTU or Open Source in general. There must be a simple way of copying and pasting without having to go to the command line for everything. I am keen to see UBUNTU make inroads into home computers and business computers as well; but not many people have the background to understand what command line is and why it is necessary. If UBUNTU can copy GUI with less command line it will not be the same as Windows; it will be better than Windows.

I hope you can help with this!

Is the flash card in read only mode? This would prevent paste from appearing. Try creating a file on the card directly.

in nautilus, click on view then select extra pane. on the pane that opened, open the destination drive and you can drag and drop to the destination.

The Flash card has already got files on it. It was also formattedbefore it was used. Some files did drag and drop, but my concern was in being able to highlight and right click the file or folder and choose COPY; but then on the drive that I wanted to paste it into I did not have a PASTE option. I hope this helps, and I thank you for your kind interest.

Regards,
Stephen

When I click on VIEW EXTRA PANE is not a given choice. The drop down box offers the following: Tool bars, Side bar, Zoom, Page Style, Character encoding, Page Source Ctrl + U, Full Screen. I have UBUNTU 10.10 installed. I cannot find a reference to PANE or EXTRA PANE.

Stephen
