I have the Top Panel but the launcher disappeared. I still can lauch application by using the "super key " or "Windows key".
This happened when I was installing an auxiliary screen on the portable computer. Everything seems to work correctly but it is not very frienly without the launcher. If you found an answer to your problem, please, let me know your solution.

Francois: Take a look in system settings->appearance and see if the launcher is set to autohide. There is a sensitivity adjustment you can try.

Hello Barry,

The problem really out of control that I was getting tired of dabbling
about with it all, that finally I backed up my files and went for a
reformat. Ubuntu by far is the best OS that is available to community
today, besides its free. I still have a problem though, with the key board,
that when I depress the right hand 'shift' key for capitals or the back key
to erase, a new tab appears preventing the typing. Wonder why this is?

I was very pleasantly surprised to note that you are a Christian and a
proud grand father of five grand children. I am a Christian minister my
self and have three grand sons and one grand daughter. Praise the Lord and
may His mighty grace be with you and your wonderful family. Attached is a
picture of my self for your perusal

Bless you

Sincerely your in Christ

Randolph

Hullo Barry,
No, it is not set to auto hide. But, still, there is something which
puzzles me; I was just playing with that when the trouble appeared. I
will keep investigating in this direction and keep you aware if I find
something worth telling.
Now you mentionned a sensitivity adjustment in the autohide option. I
did not see anything like that. Where is that ? I may have changed
something without knowing...
Thank you for your help.

It's in the same place as the autohide setting. system settings->appearance->behaviour The required setting seems to be very different on every computer I have tried - don't know why.

Randolph ... Attachments don't get carried through to the launchpad questions site. You are welcome to contact me off-site if you want to. If you are subscribed, you can click on my name and sent me a message. Not sure about your question about the right shift and tab keys. Is this happening in a particular application? If so, please give details - it could be an as yet unspotted bug.

I spent a few days without looking at the problem. I have UBUNTU (French version) on a portable computer, but I don't like its keyboard and even less the touch pad on this PC. Therefore, each time it is possible, I add a separate mouse and a separate Keyboard which I find more friendly to use. The bug which makes the launcher to fade from the screen is linked to the connection of my separate keyboard. When it is connected, if you go to settings --> appearance --> behaviour and you change to auto hide, then the sensitivity setting is active and can be moved to zero. You see the result immediatly. All this is normal. But if you remove the autohide with the switch without having readjusted the sensitivity away from zero, the launcher does not come back at all.
If you turn the computer off and on, the launcher does not come back as long as the separate keyboard is connected. Remove this keyboard, everything comes back correctly. I have no explanation, the trouble may come from my keyboard. Any way, it is easy to avoid, never set the autohide sensitivity to zero. As a matter of fact, this sensitivity adjustment is perfectly useless.
